How Does EcoBoost Work?
One of the most revolutionary factors of the high-performance, eco-friendly EcoBoost engine is direct injection of gasoline. By delivering a light mist of gasoline directly into each of the engines cylinders, performance is increased while harmful emissions are decreased.
Ford engineers also added a turbocharger with intercooler that pressurizes the air coming into the engine. Forced induction dramatically increases horsepower and torque, giving smaller four-cylinder engines the power of a standard V6, and many V6 engines the equivalent power of a larger-displacement V8. Independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) allows the EcoBoost to achieve class leading torque any RPM level. Unlike other turbo charged engines, the EcoBoost is able to obtain instantaneous low-end torque while avoiding turbo lag.

Ford has added the EcoBoost motor to many of its 2018 models. Since the engine was introduced in 2011, it has proven its reputation as a solid, reliable performer.
